Konjac Root Fiber
Konjac root is grown in Japan, India, Korea and China and used in a flour, powder or jelly form. Dr. Oz says it is one of the most powerful fiber supplements and weight loss aids because it dramatically expands in the belly when placed in water. Take about 6 pm or about 15 minutes before you have dinner when you start to have hunger pangs. Take about one teaspoon in a glass of water and it will also combine with the water in your stomach, swelling up in your belly making you feel fuller and eat about 70 calories less. Dr. Oz says that translates to about 7 pounds lost in a year.
Calcium
Dr Oz has done numerous segments of the importance of calcium in our diets. It is necessary for developing and maintaining strong bones and preventing osteoporosis, frailty and broken bones. Because your bones are constantly repairing and replenishing tissue, you constantly need to supply your body with adequate levels of calcium. If you don’t get enough calcium, your body takes it from your bones. At age 30 you are already at risk of brittle bones and by age 50 it gets much worse. The average woman needs 1,000 mg to 1,300 mg of calcium daily. For those that may not get enough in the foods they eat, Dr. Oz has recommended a “Calcium Cocktail.” Read More…
Vitamin D
Dr. Oz considers Vitamin D a supplement “Superstar.” Vitamin D is critical for bone health. Without vitamin D, our bodies cannot properly absorb calcium, and our bones become weak as osteoporosis. In addition, Dr. Oz tells us that vitamin D helps ward off diseases high blood pressure and cancer, boosts the immune system and reduces inflammation in the body. But he tells that new research now reveals that vitamin D may play the most crucial role of all in weight loss by helping us control our appetite and revving up our metabolism! Calcium Cocktail – Calcium Magnesium
Dr. Oz says that fewer than 15% of women over 40 get the calcium they need, so has recommended calcium supplements numerous times on his show. But he stresses to never take a calcium supplement alone. You need to combine it with magnesium and vitamin D. The calcium supplement will cause constipation, but the magnesium will help your bowels to stay soft. The vitamin D is needed because it helps your body to absorb the calcium. He has recommended taking the three in a cocktail with the following proportions:
The Dr. Oz “Calcium Cocktail”
- 600 mg Calcium
- 400 mg Magnesium
- 1000 IU Vitamin D3
You can actually buy supplements that will combine calcium and magnesium or some that combine all three.
Multi-Vitamin
Dr. Oz recommends taking a multivitamin daily because only about 1% of us get all of our necessary nutrients in the foods we eat. Making sure we get all of our daily nutrients would help ward off chronic disease. Dr. Oz says we do not need to spend a lot of money on our multivitamin. A generic will do. He recommends one with a low dose, with doses of only 100% of our Daily Recommended DV (Daily Value). That is what we should normally get in the foods that we eat. Dr Oz too much of certain vitamins in supplements like Vitamin A and E can be toxic and harmful. Look for no more than 3500 IU of Vitamin A (2500 IU for postmenopausal women) and no more than 30 IU of Vitamin E. Read More…
