“A Word To The Wise.” Fight Fraud. Dr. Oz Is Mad As Hell!

Dr Oz - Fight Fraud - Oz Watch09-10-2012 Dr. Oz kicked off his new season of The Dr. Oz Show with the announcement that he is mad as hell! His says his legal rights are being violated and his trusting viewers are being duped! He says every day he puts his name on the line to give us information about substances that will improve our health.  But hundreds and thousands of companies have used his name and image and words like “as seen on Dr. Oz” on anything he mentions on his show to create and sell products and even scam us.

Products like green coffee bean extract,  resveratrol,  raspberry ketone,  acai berry, Africa mango or any of the many health substances that Dr. Oz has mentioned may be purchased by trusting consumers without knowing if these products are fake, pure, in the proper dosage or are even safe to use.

The Internet is not policed the way we may think.   Dr. Oz’s guest, Sree Sreenivasan,  Chief Digital Officer, Columbia University,  showed us how anyone can create an ad on websites like Facebook and easily upload Dr. Oz’s image,  in order sell and scam fake products,  get your personal and credit card information and rip you off!

Dr. Oz and his legal department is searching the Internet and is currently taking action against those companies that are selling goods using his name without his permission. They are also involving websites such as Amazon and Facebook in removing those illegal ads.

Dr. Oz said Facebook has made the following statement “we have already asked our team to search for fake accounts and pages that may be using the Dr. Oz name and we will make sure that these pages are escalated accordingly.  Facebook respects the intellectual property rights of others and is committed to helping third parties, including Dr. Oz, protect their rights.”

Amazon submitted this statement.. “the items to which you refer were posted by third-party merchants without prior review by Amazon.com.  Please be advised that we are in the process of removing the items you identified.”

Likewise, beware of your local health food stores which also may freely post Dr. Oz’s name and image on their products.  Many of these products are not pure and have not been thoroughly researched in accordance to the suggestions made by Dr. Oz,  so therefore may not be safe to use and may even be dangerous.

Dr. Oz says for the last three years his mission has been and will always be to better our health and make our lives a little easier.  But because so many merchants are using his name and image to sell products, The Dr. Oz Show will know longer be supplying brand names.

10-9-2012  Dr. Oz reinforced this commitment by saying that his goal now is to make his viewers smart consumers so that we can make educated choices and not be tricked into buying questionable brands that fraudulently use his name.  He pledges that he will give such information as the raw material ingredient that he wants us to take, how long we should take it, the approximate cost and specific details about the dosage.

Please know that Dr. Oz does not send emails to get you to buy products and does not endorse products.  If Dr. Oz does have a sponsorship he will openly disclose it to us.  The products that are mentioned will be researched and approved by Dr. Oz himself.

He is asking for our help with what he calls “Oz Watch.”  If we see products using Dr. Oz’s name or image,  please take down the web address, take a picture of the product and send it to Dr. Oz through Oz Watch.
