Do Real Men Have Cosmetic Surgery?

Men Do Get Liposuction.Yes They Do! Meet Steve Priest (or similiar sounding) whose nutrition, fitness and forward thinking attitude was recently featured on NBC’s Today Show about the increasing numbers of men opting for plastic surgery.

NBC’s Mara Schiavocampo reported that Steve is a 43 year old health conscious male who eats right, works out regularly and even runs marathons but despite his efforts he was not able to reduce his “love handles” to his satisfaction. He said “When someone’s working out all the time and making that effort and still can’t get the results they want, you have two choices.  You can accept the way it is or you can get a little help.”

So 2 1/2 years Steve decided to have liposuction done around his midsection.  He paid $15,000 for the procedure, but is very pleased with the results. He instantly shedded several inches and two pant sizes! Steve said “It makes you feel a little more healthy, and stronger and confident, although it sounds kind of vain to do it.  But it made me happy”.

And Steve is not alone. Mara reported that more than 1.1 million men had cosmetic procedures last year, the highest number since 2005.
The fastest growing surgeries are…
Facelifts up 14%
Liposuction up 7%
Breast Reductions up 6%

Mara said most popular are the quicker, nonsurgical tweak procedures like…
Botox, by far the most popular procedure for men
Laser Hair Removal
Chemical Peels

Plastic surgeon Dr. Norman Rowe appeared in the news piece and said about 20% of his patients are male. “Saying that men age gracefully is well and fine but men are saying why do I have to age gracefully.  Why can’t I try to remain youthful looking.”
Dr. Rowe said his patients come from all walks of life.  From lawyers to mechanics to men in their 50s to those still in their 20s.

A 29-year-old about to turn 30 said he’s a strong believer in preventative measures.  He doesn’t want to wait until the problem is there and then try to fix it.  He received a set of facial injections which cost $2400.  Dr. Rowe said men are willing to pay to get the beauty benefits long enjoyed by women and thinks that the trend will continue to grow and that the stigma is beginning to fall by the wayside.

Why are more men having procedures done? Is there still a stigma toward men having these procedures?
