Dr. Fuhrman: Immunity Solution. Nutritarian Prescription For Building a Strong Immune System.

MicronutrientsWhat the heck is a Nutritarian!?  Oh, that’s a term coined by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Board Certified Family Physician and New York Times best-selling author whose life passion is helping people regain their health and vitality through nutritional and natural methods. In his new PBS Special, Immunity Solution, he tells us who he considers a Nutritarian and gives us his prescription to building a strong immune system that will fight autoimmune disease and cancer, without drugs and surgery.

According to Dr. Fuhrman, a Nutritarian is a person who recognizes that their future health is directly linked to the micronutrient quality of their food choices.  A Nutritarian learns about the most powerful healing foods and consumes them regularly.  A Vegan or a person who eats animal products can both be Nutritarians if they eat a Nutritarian Diet which is a diet that strives for nutritional excellence.  Nutritarian Diets are designed healthfully and contain a high density of micronutrient foods.

In this program, Dr. Fuhrman explains why the American Standard Diet is deficient in micronutrients and why that shortfall can cause disease and illness.

The Immunity Solution Program  utilizes  Superfoods which Dr. Fuhrman calls G-BOMBS! He promises they will strengthen our immune systems in order for us to resist and reverse disease.

How do we incorporate Superfood G-BOMBS! into our Nutritarian Diet?  Dr. Fuhrman Prescribes ….

  • Eat at least one half cup of beans per day.
  • Eat at least three fresh fruits a day. One cup of berries and at least two other fruits.
  • Eat at lease 1 ounce of raw seeds and nuts per day. Have one half ounce or one tablespoon of Chia seeds, Sesame Seeds, Flax or Hemp seeds. The other half ounce include Walnuts for Omega-3 Fatty Acids or any variety of other nuts like almonds, pecans, pistachio, macadamia etc.
  • Eat at lease one large salad every day as a main dish.
    To release all the anti-cancer properties, be sure to chop up all the greens, cruciferous vegetables, the tomatoes and red onion, etc. Experiment with nut-based salad dressings.  One of Dr. Fuhrman’s favorite dressings is whipping up some roasted garlic, almonds, tomato sauce and fig or balsamic vinegar. Don’t be afraid to add kiwi, strawberries, cherry or sun-dried tomatoes to your salad.  You can even dump your half cup of beans right on top of the salad if you want.
  • Eat some onions and mushrooms daily. Try to get at least one half cup of onions per day and a little bit of mushrooms. Just a little bit of mushrooms every day will do it!
  • Eat at lease one large double sized portion of steamed cooked green vegetables daily. Be sure to include your cruciferous vegetables like broccoli. You might want to add mushrooms to this meal.

How do you know you are getting the right amount of nutrients to prevent disease?

You may want to use a free online nutrient calculator such as The RightTrak.com. You can select a variety of foods and The RightTrak will add up the nutrient values of your selected foods such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, folate, beta carotene…and more.
