Dr. Mark Hyman: Seven Steps To Reverse Diabesity. Diet, Supplements, Family & Community.

Seven Steps To Reverse Diabesity

  • STEP ONE – Get Tested. You need a full picture of your health. Everyone should know their weight, their waist size, their blood pressure. The easiest test for diabesity is the mirror test. Look in the mirror without your shirt on, jump up and down and if your stomach jiggles you probably have diabesity. Most people don’t even realize that they are overweight. 40% of people don’t realize they are obese until their doctors tell them. Get the right blood test. Don’t just get the blood sugar because that is the last thing to do up. You must check your insulin levels. Remember, Insulin is the fat storage hormone. Be a proactive patient and demand this test from your doctor. Check your NMR cholesterol size. But make a note…Most cholesterol tests are outdated and should no longer be done. The old tests do not measure the size or the number of your cholesterol particles. It is important that you get the new test called NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance). Some things size does not matter but in the case of the NMR testing, small is bad. Diabesity causes small particles and many particles. In fact it’s diabesity and not cholesterol that causes those heart attacks.

  • STEP THREE – Get a metabolic tune-up with supplements. Why do we need Vitamin Supplements?. Dr. Hyman says vitamins and minerals are the little helpers that make every chemical reaction in our body run including burning fat and calories. In our population, we have massive nutritional deficiencies, including omega-3 fats, vitamin D, folate, zinc, and magnesium. And that causes the wheels of our metabolism to slow down. That’s why everybody needs a good multivitamin, fish oil and vitamin D. There is one special supplement you should know about. It’s a super fiber called PolyGlycoplex or PGX. It is a unique combination of seaweeds and a Japanese root. It absorbs many times its weight in water. It soaks up sugar and fat in your gut and prevents spikes in your blood sugar and insulin.   • STEP FOUR – Get Moving and Get Relaxed. You need to move or you won’t! Dr. Hyman posed a question, “What fits your busy schedule better? Exercising one hour a day or being dead 24 hours a day? Enough Said!” You also need to find ways every day to actively relax. You need to find your pause button. Stress makes us fat.. Relaxing makes us thin. So do yoga, meditate, pray, do deep breathing, make love, all of which hits the pause button.
  • STEP FIVE – Get Clean and Go Green! We are all toxic. If we were a food we wouldn’t be safe to eat! But the worst thing is what’s happening to our children. Every baby has 287 toxic chemicals in their umbilical cord blood. Since 1980 there has been a 73% increase in obesity in six month old babies. It’s not because they’re out eating double cheeseburgers or playing hours of video games!  It’s because they are toxic and toxins interfere with metabolism. Environmental toxins jam up our metabolism and cause diabesity. By getting clean and going green we not only boost our metabolism and get healthy but we can also reduce our heavy toxic footprint.
    If you hit a plateau and you cannot lose weight it may be because you are toxic. Detoxifying can help you lose weight and reverse diabesity. Your body is smart. It knows how to detox. You just need to help it do its job. Drink lots of water to have clear urine. Make sure you empty your bowels every day. Yes, every day. Sweat a lot with exercise and saunas. And do deep breathing. These are the ways your body gets rid of toxins. You also need to reduce your daily toxin exposures. Drink clean water. Did you know that the average tapwater has 38 different toxic chemicals in it? So filter your water. Eat clean food. Eat organic whenever possible. Avoid those big mercury containing fish like swordfish and tuna. Use safe household cleaning products and personal care products. Most under arm deodorant is full of aluminum. Sun blocks have tons of parabens. Both of those are bad toxins.

Obesity, including childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes are social diseases. And we need a social cure. Type 2 diabetes used to be called adult onset. But not anymore. That’s because there has been a 1000% increase in the number of kids developing adult onset diabetes. We need to turn this tide together. So that our children and their children can live in a world free from diabesity and needless suffering. How about if we all start in our kitchens. The average family in America only eats dinner together about three times a week for about 20 minutes. Each person eating a different microwave meal, made in a different factory while they are texting or watching TV. The average American spends more time watching cooking on television that actually cooking! So many children born today grow up in a household where no one knows how to cook. And some can not even identify a single fresh fruit or vegetable. We cannot survive as a species living this way. We Need to Take Back Our Health.   Together, in our homes, our schools, our faith based organizations, our workplaces, and our communities!
