GMA:The Manhattan Diet. How New York Women Stay Thin.

Good Morning American together with Lara Spencer and Juju Chang, tell us how New York women stay model thin.  Their secrets are revealed in the new book The Manhattan Diet by Eileen Daspin. Juju says New York women do not consider it a diet, but a way of life. The new diet even suggests that skinny New Yorkers indulge their cravings.  Eileen Daspin says that the Manhattan Diet is about eating what you want but only a little of it.  It’s all about portion control.  Eileen Daspin interviewed over a hundred think skinny Manhattanites to discover their secrets. These are the top tips they gave her:

  • buy and eat small portions and try a smaller plate
  • shop early and often to ensure freshness in your food
  • get competitive in your exercise by bringing a friend to workout classes or out doing the stranger next to you
  • sneak in your workouts whenever you can
  • cheat every once in a while with small desserts and a glass of wine so you never feel deprived

Eileen suggests that the diet is not necessarily a health food diet, but you can make it healthy by eatting small bites throughout the day of healthy food such as kale, apple chips, banana and dried mango.

That’s what one size zero Manhattanite shared with us. She said she always carries snacks. She also never cleans her plate.  She tries to eat only half of the amount.  She eats a little bit at a time but frequently.  She does indulge in chocolate treats but she makes sure to burn them off in workouts like spinning classes.  She says that women like her are always moving, whether it’s with friends, their children, or working.  There always seems to be somewhere to go. Whether you are walking or running late, you are always moving.

ABC’s Juju Chang found they behave like skinny women throughout the world.  They exercise, they eat small meals that they spread throughout the day, and they do it with a lot of style and nervous energy!
