Oprah: Dr. Oz on Belly Fat, Omentum and Penis Size?

Oprah Dr Oz OmentumNBC has been airing reruns of the Oprah show of what they are calling Best of Oprah. Included in these reruns are great shows when Dr. Mehmet Oz began making regular appearances infecting us with his charming appeal has he gave us health advice and answered our many questions. It seemed no subject was off limits! Here is what he had to say about belly fat and why it is so dangerous.

Oprah's Omentum ShockWhat is the most dangerous fat on your body?  Your thighs, your buttocks, or your belly?  Dr. Oz says it is Belly Fat! The fat in your belly is the fat doctors worry about. Dr. Oz explained that there is an organ hooked up to our stomachs called the Omentum which stores the fat in our belly. The reason why it is of such concern is that the omentum comes alive! It actually has chemicals that stimulate us to eat as it gets bigger. These chemicals also stimulate the onset of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes which is a complication of obesity.  Dr. Oz and Oprah showed us two omentums, one of a normal weight person and one that was about 30 pounds overweight. You would not want that around your middle!

The good news is that the omentum can shrink with diet and exercise. Dr. Oz says the goal is keeping your waistline at a healthy size.  He suggested two different target goals to use, though one will have the advantage over the other:
Your waist should be no more than half your height.
Or
No More Than – Woman 32 1/2 inches and Men 35 inches

Dr Oz - Waist SizeWhat is the correct way to measure your waist?  Dr. Oz said find your belly buttom and suck in! Yeah! We should suck in as much as we are able! Dr. Oz says we are trying to measure the omentum, not your muscles, and we cannot suck omentum in!

Here are a couple more statistics that might be of interest.

Dr. Oz says if your waist size is 40 inches for women and 45 inches for a man you have the same chances of survival as if you had breast or prostate cancer!

On the upside for men, Dr. Oz says for every 35 pounds a man loses, he gains one inch penis length!  The reason is you have this extra fat bundle that starts to build up and surrounds the shaft. The penis gets enveloped by these folds of fat.  Of course those numbers taper off as you become more fit.
