Oprah: Exercise Pillar of Bob Greene’s 20 Years Younger Plan

Oprah:Mimi Lost 10 pounds and 100 Cholesterol points!The Oprah Winfrey Show aired a program featuring Best Life Coach Bob Greene’s nutrition plan 20 Years Younger. Bob says you can look and feel 20 years younger by revamping four areas of your life: exercise, nutrition, skin care, and sleep. The plan’s success was put to the test by a 60 day challenge Oprah gave 20 of her viewers. They had to pledge to follow the plan faithfully.

The Exercise Pillar:

  • Bob says everybody, beginners included,  should start with the minimum of 200 minutes of cardio per week, about 3.5 hours (about 40 minutes walking briskly five days a week).
  • Bob says you should never walk on the flat treadmill.  A flat treadmill is like walking downhill. The value of the exercise is not in the burning of the calories.  It’s in the change of your metabolism the other 23 ½ hours of the day.
  • After 30 days, kick it up to 300 minutes a week for exercising ( that’s 60 minutes 5 days a week)
    It sounds like a lot but you should have already built that time into your day so that’s the key.  When you challenge your body that’s when all the great results appear.
  • Since exercise is non-negotiable, Bob Greene suggests making it an appointment that you simply wouldn’t cancel.
  • He says lifting weights is also critical in the 20 years younger anti-aging program.
  • Bob says the key to strength training is to tighten your abdomen.  That stabilizes your whole body.  The most important group of muscles in your body is your “core”.

Dr. Paulette Saddler, Internist gave the women physicals at the beginning of the challenge and assessed the post 60 day overall condition.

She said along with the weight loss, they saw dramatic reductions in their blood pressure and cholesterol. Mimi, age 58, with her 10 pounds weight loss, her cholesterol also went down 100 points! What other benefits come with losing ten pounds?
