Oprah: What makes us Happy!

HappyOprah Winfrey did a show on happiness with the help of Goldie Hawn, actress and founder of the Hawn Foundation and Dan Buettner, best-selling author and researcher of Blue Zone communities around the world.

Oprah polled the studio audio on several questions then shared some interesting research findings and insights on some very key factors of “What Makes Us Happy?”

Do you consider yourself happy?

While 93% of the studio audience said yes, the results of a 2010 Gallup Poll say that only 57% of America say They Are Happy.
40% are Trying to Be Happy while an unfortunate 3% say that they Are Suffering.

Do you think that happiness is genetic?

68% of Oprah’s studio audience agreed with the researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, that, yes, you can be born with the happy gene!  But there must be a catch.  Read More…

Do you make time in your day for complete silence?

Only 29% of the studio audience said yes.
You might want to seriously consider taking up the practice.

How often do you have sex?

Oprah’s studio audience returned the following results: 2% said every day, 50%, said once a week, 20% said once a month, and 27% said they couldn’t remember.
Not surprising, Oprah’s resources at Princeton University say studies show that “the more sex you have the happier you are and that women rated sex as the activity that makes them the happiest.” ??
I think many of us women would agree with Oprah when she said “the study must have been made by a man!” In jest, perhaps. But curiously, on a Dr. Oz Show episode, his guest, Dr. Lauren Streicher, Ob-Gyn had another spin on the sex issue. Read More…

How well do you know your neighbors?

26% of the studio audience knows all their neighbors, 65% know some of their neighbors, and 9% doesn’t know any of their neighbors.
Researchers from the University of California, San Diego and Harvard University found that having a happy neighbor increases your happiness by 34%. And the more neighbors, you know, the happier and safer, you feel.
